Netrack or Valrack? How to Select the Right Rack for Your IT Infrastructure

A Rack Is Infrastructure, Not Furniture

IT racks are sometimes selected late in a project.

That is a mistake.

The rack affects equipment installation, cooling, cable routing, power distribution, maintenance and future expansion.

A rack therefore should be selected according to the infrastructure going inside it.

Start With the Equipment

Before selecting a rack, identify:

server dimensions

switch depth

UPS requirements

patch panels

PDUs

cable managers

fiber equipment

expected future devices

The deepest or heaviest equipment often determines the practical rack requirement.

Consider Airflow

Higher compute density produces more heat.

Rack architecture should allow the planned cooling strategy to work rather than obstructing airflow.

In data-center applications, rack orientation, perforation and hot/cold aisle planning should therefore be considered together.

Cable Management Is Critical

A rack that accommodates the equipment but leaves no space for cables can create operating problems later.

Plan both horizontal and vertical cable-management capacity.

For high-density switches, cable management requirements may be substantial.

Load Capacity

Do not calculate rack loading only on the equipment installed on day one.

Consider how the rack may evolve.

Servers, UPS systems and power components can add significant weight over time.

Netrack and Valrack

Netrack and Valrack provide rack and enclosure solutions for different IT infrastructure requirements.

Instead of choosing only by rack height, evaluate the entire deployment environment.

A branch network cabinet has different requirements from an enterprise server room.

An edge facility has different requirements from a high-density data center.

Why Authorized Distribution Helps

Projects frequently require multiple racks with accessories, cable managers, shelves and power-related components.

Working through an authorized Netrack or Valrack distributor makes it easier to coordinate compatible components and project quantities.

Siddharsh supports customers and partners with Netrack and Valrack product requirements, project coordination and logistics.

Select the Rack Around the Application

The right question is not:

“Which rack is cheapest?”

The better question is:

“Which rack will support our equipment safely and efficiently for the next several years?”
